Look Slimmer and Taller With These 8 Tips - Plus a few for the guys
One of the things you may or may not know about me is that I am petite. At 5 feet 2 inches, I am a bit vertically challenged-LOL! My childhood dream was to be a 5’9” runway model. By age twelve, I knew THAT wasn’t happening. Nevertheless, I still loved clothes and fashion, and knew I would make a career of it in some way or another. What I love most about my job is seeing my clients achieve results. There is nothing better than receiving an email from a client telling me how much more confident they feel or how easy it is for him or her to get ready in the morning. My goal is to help my clients look and feel their absolute best, exactly where they are right now. So, if you put on a few pounds over the holidays like most people did, check out my tips below to help you look slimmer and taller.
Show your skinny bits. Exposing your neck, wrists, and ankles make you look slimmer immediately.
Wear three quarter length sleeves if you are petite. It makes you look taller.
Dress in a column of color. When you wear one color, preferably in a darker tone, from head to toe, it elongates the body and makes you appear taller as well as slimmer. Darker colors absorb light making you appear smaller.
Try patterns with thin, vertical stripes. I love a navy fitted dress with thin, vertical stripes or a dress pant with light pin stripes. It’s a classic look perfect for a more formal business environment.
Wear clothes that fit YOUR body shape. When you wear clothes that are too big, you look wider and shorter. When you wear clothes that are too tight, you just look bigger. Finding the right styles for your shape can sometimes be a challenge, but it is worth the investment of time. It is better to have five items that fit you perfectly then 25 that don’t. Tailor your clothes to fit you perfectly. Taking a blazer or top in at the ribcage can make you look a few pounds thinner. Tailoring your pants to the tip of your shoe provides the longest visual line helping you to appear taller.
Stand up straight! Standing up straight can make you look five pounds thinner immediately!
Invest in a bra that fits you properly. By separating your chest from your stomach you are creating a longer visual line. You’ll not only appear taller but you’ll look slimmer too.
Now, here are a few tips for the guys:
Make sure your tie covers your belt buckle or hits at the middle of the buckle especially if you have larger belly. You don’t want to create an arrow pointing to your bulge.
Choose a dress shirt style that fits you perfectly and doesn’t create a balloon effect. Avoid bulky fabrics.
Wear flat front pants with a thinner leg (not too slim). Then tailor them appropriately with your shoes. Avoid a double break or the trendy high-water look. Remember business first fashion second, unless of course, you work in the fashion industry.
Wear dress shirts with horizontal stripes or smaller patterns. Large check patterns make you look larger.
Dark colored pants make you look slimmer and taller instantly.
