Holiday Party Tips

December 21, 2016

You work hard all year long to achieve your business goals and deliver amazing results.  Why tarnish your image by having one too many drinks at your company’s holiday party or wearing something that is way to revealing. There is nothing wrong with having a good time at the company party or other business holiday events but keep in mind how you want to be remembered.  You want to avoid becoming water cooler fodder.   I share similar tips year after year as I feel they are so important, and yet people still make the same blunders.  So here goes.

Wear an outfit that says polished, professional and festive.  Skip the skin tight, low cut, super short outfits.  They are never appropriate in a professional setting.

Stick to the one – drink rule- two at the most, depending on your tolerance. If you weigh 100 pounds, then two drinks may be too much for a business event. You don’t want to say something you regret.

Brush up on your social etiquette.  Know how to introduce people properly.  Practice ways to remember names.  It is easy to impress someone when you remember his or her name.

Don’t share office gossip.  Parties can be a great opportunity to get to know some of the movers and shakers at your company.  Be prepared to talk about an important project you are working on and the results you have delivered.  You want to be remembered for your positive contributions to your company not inappropriate behavior.

Your actions have consequences.  These tips are valuable all year round.  Enjoy the holiday season and keep your image intact!
